Ahead of the US midterm elections 2026, the super PAC (Political Action Committee), backed by Fairshake, has launched a new campaign against Texas Representative Al Green, according to a report in The New York Times. The group, Protect Progress, plans to spend $1.5 million opposing Green in next month’s Democratic primary.

The group reported more than $193 million at the start of 2026. The funds are expected to be used in the 2026 midterms against candidates viewed as hostile to the crypto industry.

This is not the first time Fairshake-affiliated groups have participated in crypto election spending to support industry-friendly candidates.

The group’s previous targets include former Rep. Katie Porter in California, former Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio, and former Sen. Raquel Terán, according to a report in The Hill.

Another Fairshake group has announced $5 million in support for the Barry Moore Senate race this year.

The campaign against Green is directly linked to his views on crypto. Last year, Green had expressed concerns about the rise of crypto and its effects on the USA’s global dominance. He had said,

“I’m concerned about how cryptocurrency can impact the dollar as the currency of choice.”

Fairshake’s spokesperson, Josh Vlasto, while talking about the campaign and on Al Green’s crypto stance, said,

“As a member of the Financial Services Committee, Representative Al Green has decided to try and stop American innovation in its tracks. Texas voters can no longer sit by and have representation in Congress that is actively hostile towards a growing Texas crypto community.”

Reacting to the crypto super PAC campaign against him, Al Green, in a video message on Facebook, argued that the super PAC group is going to lie and cheat. He said that they will do anything to maintain the dominance they have over some members of Congress. He added,

“Yes, they will outspend me, but they cannot buy the new 18th Congressional District. I assure you, it will not be bought, and it is not for sale.”

Reports and surveys coming in suggest that Rep. Christian Menefee has a lead over Green in the Democratic primary. Though we will have to wait until March 3 to get a clearer picture.

The campaign against Al Green and others highlights the crypto industry’s growing dominance. It increased significantly after Donald Trump’s endorsement during the 2024 elections. The industry has managed several big wins and has favorable people sitting in the top echelons.
