Meta to Launch Stablecoin Payments Across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Meta stablecoin payments

Meta stablecoin payments are set to become a reality in the second half of 2026. According to reports, Meta has issued a request for proposals to third-party vendors for stablecoin-based payments and a new digital wallet, targeting Facebook stablecoin payments, WhatsApp crypto transfers, and Instagram crypto shopping across its 3+ billion user base. Stripe is reportedly a frontrunner as a Stripe stablecoin partner for the project.

No More Libra, This Time It’s Different

Unlike the failed 2019 Libra project, Meta stablecoin payments this time around won’t involve Meta issuing its own coin. Instead, existing dollar-pegged tokens from third-party providers would be used. The 2025 GENIUS Act under President Trump has eased stablecoin regulations, giving Meta a cleaner regulatory path than it had six years ago.

CoinDesk reported:

“Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta is planning a stablecoin comeback in H2, eyeing a third-party vendor as a key partner to power payments across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.”

What Meta Stablecoin Payments Mean for Users

WhatsApp crypto transfers could enable near-instant, low-fee cross-border payments, addressing one of the biggest pain points of traditional remittances. Instagram crypto shopping would let users pay directly within the app. Facebook stablecoin payments could extend that to Meta’s broader social commerce ecosystem, making Stripe partner infrastructure critical to a smooth rollout.

Analyst Benjamin Cowen stated:

“After the current consolidation, it looks like stablecoin dominance will go higher into the summer months.”

Adding on February 25, 2026:

“I mean this has played out perfectly so far.”

The Bigger Picture

Meta stablecoin payments could end up being one of the most significant real-world deployments of stablecoin technology to date, and also one of the hardest to ignore. With over 3 billion users already on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the infrastructure for mass adoption is already there.

WhatsApp crypto transfers alone could reshape how hundreds of millions of people in underbanked regions send money across borders, while Instagram crypto shopping and Facebook stablecoin payments bring stablecoins into everyday commerce in a way that no crypto-native app has managed to do at scale.

The Stripe stablecoin partner arrangement, if confirmed, would add a proven payments backbone to the whole operation. No launch date has been officially confirmed at the time of writing, but the H2 2026 window is fast approaching.
