Stripe is making strides toward bridging the gap between artificial intelligence and liquid capital by launching a dedicated protocol for Stripe AI Payments on the Base blockchain. The payment system is designed to enable AI agents to make cryptocurrency payments autonomously. The traditional banking rail, especially for small-value transactions, would cost more in fees than the actual payment.

Inside Stripe AI Payments on Base and TON Wallet’s Bitcoin Ethereum Support

The launch of the X402 Payment Protocol by Stripe taps into the Base blockchain by allowing developers to charge AI agents using USD Coins for their activity in real-time. Traditional payments are human-centered hence Stripe’s focus on AI agents for crypto payments.
Jeff Weinsten, Product Manager, Stripe, said in an X post:
Under the new system, a developer initiates a Stripe PaymentIntent for an AI agent, Stripe assigns a unique deposit address, and the AI agent sends USDC to that address to complete the transaction.
Stripe tracks the payment and deposits funds into the merchant’s Stripe balance. This positions it at the intersection of blockchain, AI, and fintech. They’ll be able to monetize usage on a per-request or per-second basis without traditional subscription barriers.

Simultaneously, the TON wallet has expanded its ecosystem to include Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC), the most widely adopted cryptocurrencies. This expansion aims to capture the massive liquidity of the two largest digital assets, allowing Telegram’s 900 million users to swap, store, and spend BTC and ETH within the same chat interface used for daily communication.
Consolidating the Global Wallet
Stripe’s integration of AI agents, crypto payments, and Base blockchain is laying the groundwork for non-human transactions. Similarly, TON is entering into the one-stop-shop territory for both retail users and autonomous bots. And all will be accommodated on your Stripe.
Jennifer Lee, a Product Manager at Stripe, reiterated how the one-stop shop just works:
Human and agent transactions will live alongside each other in your Stripe dashboard…and it just works.
