The latest Anthropic revenue surge is one of the most talked-about developments in the industry right now. The company behind Claude is expected to hit almost billion in annual revenue, over double what it stood last year.
The company recently achieved $19 billion in revenue, according to Bloomberg. The figure stood at $9 billion last year.
It signals massive Anthropic growth and hints at increased Claude AI adoption, with Claude Code being one of the major drivers. Anthropic’s AI run rate story becomes even more interesting in the context of recent developments: the Pentagon feud.

Anthropic’s Revenue Surge, Claude AI Adoption, and Pentagon Feud
Last week, on February 26, 2026, Anthropic released a statement from its CEO, Dario Amodei, on the recent negotiations with the US Department of War. It said that there were two areas where Anthropic was unwilling to make concessions for the Department of War: mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons.
Two days later, on Feb 28, 2026, US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, announced that he was directing all departments to cease use of Anthropic’s technology. Calling Anthropic a Radical Left AI Company, Trump said,
“Therefore, I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again! There will be a Six Month phase out period for Agencies like the Department of War who are using Anthropic’s products, at various levels.”
The same day, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced in a post on X that they were designating Anthropic as a Supply-Chain Risk to National Security.

Soon, the Department of War and OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, entered into an agreement, with the latter replacing Anthropic.
As surprising as it may sound, there are reports that the Pentagon feud has helped Claude attract more users. A report in the Independent suggests that users are boycotting ChatGPT over OpenAI’s tie-up with the US Department of War and switching to Claude, fuelling massive Claude AI adoption.
Reacting to comments, Anthropic released another statement reaffirming its position on the matter and confirming that it is challenging the restrictions in court. The statement read,
“We are deeply saddened by these developments. No amount of intimidation or punishment from the Department of War will change our position on mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. We will challenge any supply chain risk designation in court.”

For now, Anthropic’s Claude AI app is leading the downloads chart on the Apple App Store. In the coming days, we will have more clarity on the fate of Anthropic and whether it will be designated as a supply-chain risk.
