OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) is launching the OpenAI Deployment Company designed to help organizations build and deploy AI systems they can rely on every day across their most important work. The new company new company backed by more than $4 billion in initial capital, adding to the hundreds of billions in OpenAI’s current valuation. Additionally, it already has significant banking partners to back it. Indeed, 19 firms have joined OpenAI in the arrangement as long-term partners, including Goldman Sachs and SoftBank Corp. Notably, Goldman Sachs is also a backer of OpenAI’s rival, AI firm Anthropic.

What OpenAI Deployment company (DeployCo) Will Provide

According to a press release from the ChatGPT developer, OpenAI Deployment company will operate as a standalone business unit. It will can develop the operating model, pace, and customer focus this work requires. At the same time, the OpenAI Deployment Company will operate as an extension of OpenAI. This will ensure keeping customers closely connected to the familiar research, product, and in-house deployment teams shaping frontier AI.
In connection with the OpenAI Deployment Company’s launch, OpenAI also agreed to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering firm that helps enterprises turn AI into operational advantage. Tomorrow already works with other top companies like RedBull, Mattel, and Fidelity. OpenAI’s acquisition or Tomoro will bring approximately 150 experienced Forward Deployed Engineers and Deployment Specialists to the OpenAI Deployment Company from day one, per the press release.

“AI is becoming capable of doing increasingly meaningful work inside organizations,” Denise Dresser, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI, said in a statement. “The challenge now is helping companies integrate these systems into the infrastructure and workflows that power their businesses. DeployCo is designed to help organizations bridge that gap and turn AI capability into real operational impact.”
The OpenAI Deployment Company’s launch comes shortly before the company’s expected IPO launch on the stock market. It is competing with rival AI giant Anthropic, making the IPO showdown a notable event on the markets this year. In that vein, it was also revealed this past weekend that
more than 600 current and former OpenAI employees have sold their shares back to the firm. This was a combined $6.6 billion worth of shares, giving the staff one of the biggest pre-IPO cash-outs ever.
