Trump’s $1T China Summit Has Every Major CEO Except Nvidia’s Jensen Huang

Trump China

President Donald Trump is traveling to Beijing this week. He is doing so with one of the largest groups of American business leaders seen on an overseas trip in recent years. CEOs from Apple, Tesla, BlackRock, Boeing, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, and Micron are expected to join the delegation. Amidst this, the US and China are expected to discuss trade, investment, and manufacturing cooperation.

The trip comes as both countries try to stabilize relations after months of tensions over tariffs, export controls, and rare earth supplies. But one notable name is missing from the list, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

The White House said the visit is mainly focused on agriculture, aviation, and investment opportunities between the two countries. According to reports, discussions may include Chinese investments in US manufacturing and potential Boeing aircraft orders.

The delegation includes Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. Companies with major exposure to the Chinese market appear to be strongly represented.

Nvidia’s Absence Draws Attention

Jensen Huang was not invited to join the trip, according to reports. The absence stands out because Nvidia remains one of the most closely watched companies in the US-China technology relationship. Last week, Huang told CNBC’s Jim Cramer,

“We should let the president announce whatever he decides to announce … If invited, it would be a privilege, it would be a great honor to represent the United States.”

The company’s advanced AI chip business in China has been hit by US export restrictions over the past two years. Huang recently said Nvidia’s market share in China for advanced AI chips had fallen to nearly zero. This was after tighter controls from the US government.

Investors viewed the decision as a sign that chip-related restrictions are unlikely to be part of the current US-China trade deal discussions. Nvidia’s shares rose about 5% following reports around the trip and Huang’s exclusion.

Meanwhile, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to discuss trade, artificial intelligence, export controls, Taiwan, and ongoing geopolitical tensions. The Trump and Xi Jinping meeting also comes as both governments look for ways to maintain economic cooperation despite continuing disagreements in the technology sector.

Boeing is expected to be one of the major focuses during the visit. Reuters reported that China and Boeing have discussed a possible order involving hundreds of aircraft. This could become the country’s largest Boeing purchase in years.
