- BNY Mellon crypto strategy puts Ripple RLUSD at the center of tokenized Treasury settlement, 24/7 Treasury settlement, and institutional digital asset infrastructure
- BNY plans to launch tokenized US Treasuries and pilot blockchain settlement before the end of 2026
- Ripple’s RLUSD will support always-on Treasury markets as BNY expands its digital asset infrastructure
BNY Mellon crypto initiatives are now expanding rapidly. The banking giant has outlined plans to bring 24/7 settlement to the US Treasury market using blockchain technology. The bank, which clears about $24T in US Treasury transactions daily, aims to enable round-the-clock settlement for both conventional and tokenized Treasuries over the coming years.
This move puts Ripple RLUSD into the spotlight, as Ripple executive Jack McDonald said the stablecoin would help support the shift towards “always-on Treasury markets.” BNY Mellon crypto initiatives further include issuing tokenized US Treasuries. It also includes pilot transactions on its private blockchain before the end of 2026. This move centers on reshaping tokenized Treasury settlement while strengthening institutional digital asset infrastructure.

Why the World’s Largest Custody Bank Just Made Ripple RLUSD Its Always-On Treasury Settlement Partner

Per a recent Bloomberg report, BNY has already completed after-hours Treasury transactions with stablecoin issuers. The bank is now planning to support 24/7 Treasury settlement for both tokenized and traditional Treasuries. McDonald took to X to welcome the announcement. He added how RLUSD will help support the evolution toward always-on Treasury markets and institutional digital asset infrastructure.
“Congratulations to @BNYglobal on this milestone. Excited to be partnering together as $RLUSD helps support the evolution toward always-on Treasury markets and institutional digital asset infrastructure.”
This announcement comes weeks after BNY Mellon became the primary reserve custodian for Ripple RLUSD. Under this partnership, BNY Mellon will safeguard the stablecoin’s reserves. It will also provide transaction banking services that connect digital assets with traditional financial infrastructure.
Ripple has also designed RLUSD primarily for enterprise payments and regulated financial institutions. The stablecoin focuses on transparency, regulatory compliance, and lower transaction costs. This makes it a befitting addition to BNY Mellon’s crypto initiatives.

BNY Mellon Crypto Push Signals Institutional Blockchain Adoption
The latest BNY Mellon crypto expansion signals rising institutional blockchain adoption across traditional finance. The company’s move into the 24/7 Treasury settlement space highlights how the tokenization of real-world finance has become a rapidly growing sector to watch. Rather than limiting blockchain technology to just the crypto domain, the financial industry is increasingly exploring its real-time applications. This makes it a key area to watch in the coming years.
With pilot programs scheduled for late 2026 and full 24/7 Treasury settlement targeted for 2027, the partnership between BNY Mellon and Ripple RLUSD may evolve into a defining milestone for institutional digital asset infrastructure.
