- Standard Chartered still sees $100,000 for Bitcoin by the end of 2026, even after the recent market weakness and Strategy’s Bitcoin sales
- Citi has taken a much more cautious view, cutting its Bitcoin price target from $112,000 to $82,000 and reducing its expected ETF inflows to zero
- ETF flows, institutional demand, US crypto regulation, and risk appetite could decide which forecast comes closer, with Citi warning that continued outflows could push Bitcoin toward its $53,000 bear case
Bitcoin is heading into the second half of 2026 with the market split over just how much upside is still left. The Bitcoin price has struggled to regain its earlier momentum. Meanwhile, institutional forecasts have moved in very different directions. Standard Chartered remains firmly bullish, Citi has taken a more cautious stance, and algorithmic models are offering another number for investors to consider.

Standard Chartered Still Sees Bitcoin Reaching $100,000

Standard Chartered has stayed with its $100,000 Bitcoin price prediction for the end of 2026, despite the recent sell-off. The bank’s digital assets chief, Geoffrey Kendrick, has argued that recent Bitcoin sales by Strategy are more of a communication issue than a sign of deeper weakness.
This target would require a sizeable move from Bitcoin’s current levels. The bigger question is whether institutional demand can return strongly enough to support it.
Citi Takes a More Cautious View
Citi sees a much lower ceiling. The bank cut its 12-month Bitcoin target to $82,000 from $112,000. It is citing weaker investor appetite, negative ETF flows, and slow progress on US crypto legislation. It also reduced its expected net ETF inflows for the next year to zero from $10 billion.
This makes ETF demand one of the key variables for the rest of the year. Without fresh institutional money, a return to six-figure prices becomes harder to justify.

CoinCodex Bitcoin Price Prediction
CoinCodex offers a middle ground. Its latest model projects Bitcoin at an average of roughly $76,000 by December 2026, with a high near $78,000. The model also puts the six-month forecast around $86,000, suggesting a recovery from current levels but stopping short of Standard Chartered’s $100,000 call.

For Bitcoin, the next few months may come down to ETF flows, interest-rate expectations, and whether investors regain their appetite for risk. Those factors could determine which forecast ends up looking closest by December.
