AI spending has quickly reached unprecedented levels, with companies continuing to pour billions into the technology as they compete to lead the trend. AI spending has now hit unprecedented levels, with a small group of US companies increasing their spending from time to time. The latest Ramp data shows that the top 1% of businesses have an average of $7400 AI spending per employee in July. At the same time, this reflects the growing corporate AI spending and how companies are leaving no stone unturned to accelerate and top the AI adoption race.

In addition to this, American entrepreneur Mark Cuban has shared that AI chips are now becoming the new crypto. His argument encompasses the growing AI adoption trends and companies trying the best to dominate the sector.

New striking data about corporate AI spending has taken the markets by surprise. Data from Ramp shows that the top 1% of AI companies spent less than $ 1,000 per employee per month in 2024. That figure has now changed dramatically. AI spending per employee has now hit $ 7,400, showcasing rising AI adoption trends. The gap becomes quite evident when compared with median businesses.

The typical company spends about $11.95/month per employee on AI, while the top 1% spends more than 600 times this figure. The Kobeissi Letter post later adds:

“Over the last several months, AI spend per employee has more than tripled for all these groups. The surge is widening the gap between categories, with the top 1% now spending more than 600 times as much per employee as the typical company. To put this into perspective, the top 1% of US businesses were spending less than $1,000 per employee per month on AI in early 2024.”

Ramp’s data further adds that AI adoption trends have now become aggressive to begin with. The platform’s AI index recorded paid AI adoption among 55% of businesses in its latest June analysis. This development highlights how companies are increasingly shifting towards rapid AI adoption, with artificial intelligence playing a key role in defining their business goals and aspirations.

AI Chips Are Getting A New Status Update

The rising AI spend levels mean rising AI infrastructure demands. Artificial intelligence tech requires heavyweight AI chips to power and initiate computing and processing. Amid the rising AI chip demand and the evolution of AI tech, Mark Cuban has delivered an interesting remark that emphasises the importance of how AI is becoming a leading player for the global markets to bank on. Cuban recently said that AI chips are now becoming the “new crypto.”

This remark is suggestive of how the growing importance of computing power to support the AI evolution is becoming a status in itself.

Cuban’s remark is very similar to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s recent view that AI compute and infrastructure can become an investable asset class. Huang has argued that AI infrastructure can generate revenue when deployed for computing workloads, giving it characteristics of an investment asset.
