Ethereum Price Targets $2K as Institutions Keep Buying, Bitcoin Sees Heavy Selling

Ethereum price

Ethereum price has spent weeks hovering below the closely watched $2,000 mark. But the flow of money under just the price chart is telling a different story. While Bitcoin is facing renewed selling pressure from short-term holders, institutions continue adding exposure to Ethereum through spot ETFs. This further pushed investors to think if Ethereum is quietly building the momentum needed to reclaim $2,000.

Institutional interest in Ethereum increased in July, with spot Ethereum ETF products recording $365 million in net inflows. This is the strongest monthly performance since October 2025, according to recent data. The steady buying comes as Ethereum continues trading below the important $2,000 level. This is a price level that has repeatedly acted as resistance in recent months.

The renewed demand is also being echoed by prominent crypto investors. BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes recently returned to Ethereum just days after trimming his holdings, purchasing 1,337 ETH worth roughly $2.5 million. Fundstrat’s Tom Lee has maintained a bullish stance on Bitcoin while backing BitMine’s strategy of building one of the largest Ethereum corporate treasuries.

At press time, Ethereum’s price was set at $1,832.44. This comes after a drop of 2.28% over the past 24 hours. The last time ETH was trading above $2,000 was back in May 2026. The highest that Ethereum could surge to in July was $1,976.46.

Several in the market are also pointing to forecasts that place Ethereum above $2,000 in the coming months. According to data from CoinCodex, Ethereum’s price is set to reach a high of $1,940 in the month of August. But September is expected to bring in notable gains and push its price above the $2,000 barrier.

Bitcoin Selling Pressure Tells a Different Story

While Ethereum has attracted fresh capital, Bitcoin has been moving in the opposite direction. CryptoQuant data showed that 32,000 BTC were transferred to centralized exchanges on August 1 by short-term holders. According to the analytics platform, most of those coins were sold at a loss, making it one of the largest capitulation events recorded over the past 30 days.

Selling pressure was also visible in the ETF market. Data from Farside Investors showed US spot Bitcoin ETF products recorded net outflows of roughly 4,100 BTC, with BlackRock accounting for nearly 1,890 BTC, followed by Fidelity and Grayscale.

This difference between the two largest cryptocurrencies has become evident. Bitcoin holders appear to be reducing exposure during recent weakness. Meanwhile, institutional investors continue pouring in capital to Ethereum.
