Qwen3.8-Max Beats Claude Fable 5 in Coding Benchmarks

Alibaba revealed Qwen3.8-Max, a 2.4 trillion-parameter large language model built for coding, reasoning, and agentic AI workloads. The company said the model supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens. This enables it to process significantly larger volumes of information than most competing models.
The launch was backed by notable results that quickly drew attention across the AI community. On the Arena.AI Frontend Code Leaderboard, Qwen3.8-Max ranked fourth overall with a score of 1,668, edging past Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5, which scored 1,630. Only Claude Opus 5, Kimi K3, and Claude Opus 5 ranked ahead.

Alibaba also published additional benchmark data showing Qwen3.8-Max delivering similar or better performance than Anthropic’s models across several coding and reasoning evaluations. The company said the model can independently complete extended software engineering tasks. This includes writing, debugging, testing, and refining code over multi-day workflows. An open-weight version is expected to be released next week.

Alibaba Stock Gains as China’s AI Race Intensifies

The AI announcement translated into an immediate market reaction. Alibaba stock rose roughly 7% in Hong Kong trading. The news clearly sparked optimism around the company’s AI strategy and boosted confidence in its cloud computing business.
It should be noted that markets are paying closer attention to real-world AI performance instead of headline-grabbing parameter counts alone.
